As
set forth in our mission statement and by laws, HABJ
is committed to sponsoring college scholarships for
students interested in pursuing a career in journalism.
Houston
Association of Black Journalists — $5,000 Scholarships
The
Houston Association of Black Journalists (HABJ) is pleased
to announce that it will award a $5,000 scholarship
to five (5) full-time African-American college students
pursuing a degree in journalism/communications at a
Houston-area accredited four-year college/university.
The
applicant must attend a Houston-area university or be
a permanent resident of the Houston Metropolitan area
and entering their junior or senior year in the fall
2008. All scholarship recipients will be notified by
Thursday, May 1, 2008.
To
be considered for a scholarship, all applicants must
submit a complete application packet (see
scholarship eligilbility criteria) which is limited
to an application form, resume, essay, headshot photo,
and two letters of recommendation.
To
ensure your application is ready for submission, have
an instructor or counselor review your packet to confirm
that your:

Typed resume clearly outlining your accomplishments; |

500
word essay addressing topic; |
 |
 |
Official
college transcript as of December 31, 2007; and |
 |
 |
Two
recommendations highlighting your commitment and
capability as a journalist |
