About HABJMessage from the President

Welcome to the HABJ Web site.

HABJ, an affiliate of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), is a nonprofit organization of media industry professionals from the Houston area who represent more than 125 professionals in print, broadcast, online and corporate communications.

Since 1986, HABJ has worked diligently to provide professional development, honor excellence in journalism, cultivate young journalists and improve the media's coverage of the minority community. HABJ provides scholarships and workforce development; and it also connects college students with internship opportunities in the field of communications. Additionally, HABJ presents free community outreach programs, seminars and town hall forums for civic groups and communication professionals. The timely discussions at these forums usually are led by our members, who range from reporters in the field to top-level managers and executives in news organizations.

Our Web site serves as another tool for members, donors and site visitors to find the latest activities and services provided by HABJ. Please take the time to explore the various links for a glimpse of who we are, what we do and our commitment to improving the industry.
